At Cedars Woodworking, we are a true 21st century woodworking shop, combining the cutting-edge technology of CAD designing & CNC machining with traditional woodworking & carpentry skills. This hybrid woodworking style can be seen in a furniture restoration project we did.
Recreated Furniture Carving
A client came to us looking to restore a missing feature of his 1840’s Art Nuevo bedroom set which he had owned for over 40 years. The bed had a hand-carved accent piece, but the matching armoire was missing the corresponding piece.
After the design stage, we took the design to the CNC machine, where we transformed a block of mahogany into the rough shape and size of the finished product. While the CNC took nearly 9 hours to work its magic, it provided us with a level of detail and precision that would have taken our staff weeks to accomplish.
After the CNC machine did its job, it took our skilled woodworkers 35-40 hours to finish the project. This included carving out every nook and cranny of the flower design, giving it three dimensions of detail. The final step of the project was finishing, during which we painstakingly matched the stained color and patina of the existing 1840’s carving.
